Sat, Oct 28, 2017 - Sun, Oct 29, 2017, 9 to 5

Over 2,000 Japanese Maples dazzle your sight with brilliant fall color.

On October 28, Arthur McClenton, our strolling flutist you have grown to love, will be with us in the Japanese Gardens from 12:30 to 3:30 PM to “Welcome the Red.”

In addition, join us for a demonstration at 11 AM and 1 PM by Atlanta Katori, who will be performing one of Japan’s oldest classical martial arts, the art of sword drawing and combat.

The demonstration will take place at the entrance to the Japanese Gardens.

Katori Shinto Ryu Demonstration

KATORI SHINTO RYU DEMONSTRATION

Originally created in 1447 as a battlefield art, Katori Shinto Ryu is Japan’s oldest surviving martial arts system. While primarily a sword system, it also teaches naginata (polearm), bo (staff), and sword-drawing techniques (batto-jutsu) among other arts. Atlanta Katori (www.atlantakatori.com) has carried on that 500 year old tradition in the Atlanta area since 2004 and we invite you on  October 28th for a demonstration of the art designated as an “Intangible Cultural Asset” by the Japanese government.
